Hey All 🙌, To all SaaS marketers in this group: I was thinking about collaborating for Black Friday and share our Black Friday deals across each others websites (SEO boost, international awareness, ...). We are preparing a list of SaaS Black Friday deals on our blog (over 100k visitors per month). If you are interested in showcasing your SaaS deal there, let me know. 👍🏼

Hey guys, I'm worried for my domain since I've noticed open rates are dropping gradually as well as delivery rate is. However I need to start fresh with cold email campaigns and I have few questions. • Will subdomain count as a new domain, or I need totally new domain? • What's the maximum numbers of email you'd be sending per day, per account? • Is it possible they blacklisted IP? Thanks in advance 🙂

Howdy all! I'm Rand Fishkin, cofounder & CEO of SparkToro, previously cofounder & CEO at Moz. A few things about me/my background: • I wrote a book -- Lost & Founder: A Painfully Honest Field Guide to the Startup World (published by Penguin/Random House, it's sold ~26K copies, so not a bestseller, but it's done decently) • I've been in digital marketing for 21 years now! Feeling a little old 🙂 • I'm a college dropout (from the Univ. of WA), who left just 2 classes away from graduating • I do a lot of public speaking, podcasts, interviews, all that stuff, mostly focused on marketing and entrepreneurship topics • I'm also the cofounder and creative director for a new video game (not yet announced), which has been a fascinating experience • I'm married to Geraldine DeRuiter, the James-Beard-award-winning author and blogger (she's also fairly Twitter famous for several viral posts about Mario Batali's sexual harassment, a terrible meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Italy, and most recently, a taste test of every flavor of Mountain Dew) I'm happy to answer questions on any and all topics, including: 1. Marketing strategy, channels, and tactics 2. Entrepreneurship and starting companies (everything from funding to find cofounders to building product, etc) 3. SparkToro and the audience research that we provide 4. Favorite TV shows, comics, books, movies, meals to cook, cocktails, restaurants in Seattle, Halloween costumes, whatever! Only thing I'm not so great on anymore is SEO - I haven't been in that world for a long time (almost 5 years!), so while I have some lingering knowledge, I'll probably answer with "you should talk to a professional SEO" Let's kick this thing off!

Emily searches for something on google and clicks on your blog. She then reads some of the blog, bookmarks it to read later, & shuts off her laptop. A few days later, she sees one of your company posts on LinkedIn & then signups for the product. How do you attribute this lead to your blog efforts? Since that was influential in her signup. Now, most blog readers don’t convert on their first encounter with a post. They may convert later that day, a few days later, or months later, so you need to be able to account for that. Most marketers don’t do this because they rarely track signups (they are more focused on vanity metrics like traffic, newsletter signups, etc.) So how do you attribute a conversion if a user touches multiple pages or parts of your business before they convert (& a blog post is only one of those touch points). (more in threads)

Personal growth question — as someone who has grown and exited a company, how do you deal with the slow-paced life post start-up life? I find myself constantly wanting to start another project or buy an existing. I can’t sit still! I’ve offered free consulting to smaller businesses through my network but everyone thinks I’m trying to sell them something. The idea of talking business, dealing with competitiveness, and brainstorming with a team is something I dearly miss. I can’t talk to any of my previous 40 plus employees that went with the sale of my company, so I have a void to fill.

✨ Hi there! Paid Media gal here. I’m currently planning a full funnel retargeting campaign series through Meta. I wanted to gauge performance expectations for B2C saas. I’m already pleasantly surprised to see a $1.20 CPC for retargeting audiences (they are amply sized) and would love to hear others’ experiences with retargeting funnels for apps. Also, What ad networks have you had the most success with?

Has anyone, especially a growth hacker touching both the public facing and the inner chamber of strategy, actually seen SEO executed same or better in an SPA or PWA ( front end rendered HTML at runtime, with headless content pulled via XHR ) versus the more knuckle dragging approach of server based MVC and other SSR ( back end rendered HTML, straight out of the database or flat files ) I really dislike the idea of skewing all of participant experience to the metrics created around the first discovery of how to start fires and cook food rather than eat raw meat, or warm our bodies while we live in damp caves. Great example here is Wordpress. Search Engines now do JavaScript rendered content natively, and do not only scrape the flat files of a landing, but run them. But people still seem conflicted if we can finally build strategy around SPA/PWA SEO. Do we still need to cut off our noses to compatibly pite our faces so search engines can interpret them online, or if it safe to expect front end rendering is effective for business results? Would love examples of successful SEO via SPA/PWA or be told we definitely need to stay prehistoric a while longer.

Most agencies are designed for start ups. Agencies know how to do certain tasks with things that are already working. They aren't out there getting mvps, finding innovators and adopters, optimizing flows and messaging, and the early stage work to enter a market. Finding someone or a team that specializes in real CRO, strategy and implementation will take you where you need. what do you think is most important for launching?

Hey folks, I’m trying to create an App Installs campaign on Instagram Reels, but I keep getting the error message “Choose an iTunes App ID: To run this iOS 14 campaign, you need to provide an iTunes app ID and URL.” However, it won’t recognize the AppStore or Playstore links. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

I was once asked why we saw a spike in conversions. With hardly any research, my boss said it was because of x to the exec asking. It didn't feel right to jump to conclusions so quickly. So I decided to dig around. Turned out to be something completely different but now we have to go back and say we were wrong. If there's one thing I can suggest, always look for all possible things adding to the event. I have found so many different things that made an impact. Some things like: 1. unknown product releases 2. email blasts 3. social ad that got a spike in engagement 4. weather 5. ads took off in select location that hadn't been targeted before. This exploration can sometimes lead to big business impacts too. For example, I found a snow storm forecast greatly increased lead generation for certain products. So what can you do with that new info? In this case, I set up an api pull to track all snowstorm forecast and pushed ads in those areas and saw a huge drop in CAC during those times. It was a huge win. Never know what you'll find. Happy exploring.
