Hey, I have been doing marketing tasks for our SAAS product, SocialBu. I need some growth tips over on reddit. How to engage with our target audience and not get banned by mentioning your product links or anything. I got shadowbanned from Reddit once. I need some great tips that helped me perform well on Reddit. cheers.

Organic marketing on Reddit is SUPER hard unless you are an experienced longtime Redditor. Honestly the best idea I can give you is to convince whoever gave you the task that organic marketing on Reddit is a huge waste of resources (time), and you’ll get more ROI putting those hours into many other forms of marketing.

Can you please explain what do you mean by other forms of marketing?
I am also in same boat and currently trying to reach out to people individually and only 1-2 sign up for product others just respond and ghost

@Aditya other forms would be: digital advertising, working on forming partnerships, setting up affiliate relationships, working to get PR exposure, writing/creating content for SEO, attending events, cold-calling, cold-emailing, email marketing. Really anything other than trying to figure out how to get exposure on Reddit which everyone who hasn’t spend much time on Reddit thinks is a golden cheat-buttne but in reality it’s actually not and the number of product/business type posts that go viral is crazy small.

@Joshua Dance that was really helpfull sir
@Scott Cole, You are right, but during COVID, most of our leads come from Reddit and Quora. I have been doing great on Quora, but subreddit rules stop me from doing that. I need to learn more and become more effective at Reddit.marketing

@Khalid Bashir Did you try organic growth & word of mouth growth or you also tried spending on google FB ads? Did you tried promoting it on any social media platform?
k
No, I haven't

@Joshua Dance Well done pdf. Informative and short -- two things I appreciate.

@Joshua Dance that PDF is spot on! What I point out to people that is basically alluded to in that PDF is: Reddit takes work and long term commitment! It CAN be successful but it takes far more time than people expect. People think there is some secret cheat code they’ll figure out with Reddit, and really it’s just a matter of hard work, and often that work has a higher ROI in other areas unless the person/company is already super familiar with Reddit. For example that PDF is right, no more than one or two promo posts a month, that is tough when your CEO says “there are 500MM people on Reddit, why don’t you just post more?!?!”

@Joshua Dance you might want to consider doing an eBook and put it on Amazon. My Story-Driven Outreach book actually started off as a webinar and not it's this: https://www.amazon.com/Story-Driven-Outreach-response-compelling-Foundation-ebook/dp/B09SW2F8JV/

If anyone is doing Reddit marketing and wants to understand now subreddits are related, I download all 300GB+ of comments from Reddit per month and run some nerd magic on it to understand how people in one subreddit belong in another, so I can give you lookalike audiences for Reddit. Here's an example for r/iPhone
