Got a question for all you Reddit marketers We're thinking of starting a subreddit for the niche we're in. There are one or two subreddits for that niche already but they're pretty inactive so this seems like a good opportunity. My question is this: How "branded" should the subreddit be? Should we clearly state that this is basically the official Reddit forum of the business? No effort to cover up our promotional posts. Or should we try and be as anonymous as possible? Just start the subreddit and let the users take over, subtly feeding in our brand's content pieces as and when necessary?

@Aleksandar Micev has created subreddits in the past, he can answer this question better than I can. In my opinion it depends on the goal of the sub reddit, if you plan to promote your product in the subreddit in any kind of way, you should clearly state that it is the official Reddit forum of your business. You can go with your second option but you have to be really careful and subtle when posting about your company and product.

Always be transparent upfront, never try to be shady because it's going to come out at the end. Especially this is true with reddit. And give more than you take, this applies to all communities, people are using the word community to label some bullshit self promotional shit that's not what community is.

If anyone is doing Reddit marketing and wants to understand now subreddits are related, I download all 300GB+ of comments from Reddit per month and run some nerd magic on it to understand how people in one subreddit belong in another, so I can give you lookalike audiences for Reddit.
