đź‘‹ Help: Looking for strategies to advertise a SAAS business outside of social media. What channels would be most effective to attack and target? Our business is subscription based and is extremely successful with retention however new customer acquisitions can be challenging. We've noticed that social media across all platforms attracts the exact same audience and type of customer which isn't really the market we need to convert. So that is why I ask what channel and/or strategies are most effective/promising for new customer acquisitions for an online business that we can utilize outside of social media. Look forward to hearing what advice the community would have for this situation!

@Ty Stewart Who’s your customer, what industry are they in, and what exact pain point do you solve for them?

What industry are you in? Describe a few more details about your customers - Who is he? What kind of work he does? What is his age?

@Vivek Vardhan @Jaymie @Harry We are a nationwide public utilities company. Having trouble defining and targeting our exact customer as they can be so broad with our industry as it is a necessity. The struggle is brand awareness to let customers know that a better options exists. We solve the issue of convenience that ALL of the major competitors neglect while still proving a high level of premium services with a fair price.

Why don't you try local newspaper advertising in a county? If it works, continue doing the same other areas. I am of opinion that traditional marketing works well for industry you're in. For online, I will say - Reddit can be a good online channel for you. Target small niche subreddits and talk about your experience and problems you're solving. You will be surprised how well reddit community welcomes you. Facebook groups can be good channel as well. Lastly, if budget permits - try advertising with websites like fobes and other popular websites. Hope it helps. Best,

@Ty Stewart OK, so you could do some general advertising around time-saving. I feel your pain on the broad customer front, as my product (Payzip) can be used by national governing bodies, leagues, hobby clubs, sports clubs etc. so it’s also true for us to say “almost anyone can use it”. This doesn’t help your product resonate with the customer though - a product for everyone gets the attention of no-one. I recommend picking some niches within your customer base and produce marketing aimed specifically at them and try to grow each niche. Convenience is a big draw for customers, but you have to explain what that looks like for them. Maybe it’s work-from-home parents with too much to do already, maybe it’s businesses who could do more with their team if you’re handling [x] for them. Whatever it is, make the customer feel like this product’s for them, when they read the content written for them. We’ve gone with sports clubs on our site for the moment, but I’m preparing material for the other types of customer, so that someone from - say - an after-school club, feels that Payzip can work for them too. Happy to chat further directly if you want, I’m not looking to upsell, just help out.

@Jaymie Thanks for the help, look forward to speaking in the future. Will reach out to you directly.
@Vivek Vardhan That is very valuable. I think we may actually put those to the test. Reddit has already proven to be effective so likely just need to double down. How do we get into facebook groups without getting banned? Facebook is pretty strict on that. Thanks.

Spend time in groups and start with comments. Become known among regulars there and then make posts. It is relationship building and not just selling. You add value and you get time of others in return. Same is true for reddit as well as fb groups.

Anyone here need help with Reddit? I download all 300GB+ of comments from Reddit per month and run some nerd magic on it to understand how people in one subreddit belong in another, so I can give you lookalike audiences for Reddit. Here's an example for r/iPhone
